Kitchen tip,

Thinly slice beef without a meat slicer

No deli slicer? An hour in the freezer firms the steak up enough to cut it thin with a sharp knife. Ready for bulgogi or a Philly cheesesteak.

The problem

Thinly sliced beef is great for dishes like bulgogi or a Philly cheesesteak. You can always ask your butcher to slice it for you, but sometimes that's just not an option.

The fix

Slightly freeze your steak, not completely frozen, just firm enough that it stays static. An hour in the freezer will do. Then cut it thin with a sharp knife. Now you can tell your friends you don't need a deli meat slicing machine.
