How to Steam Food Without a Steamer
No steaming basket? Three foil balls, a heatproof plate and a lidded pan turn into a steamer for anything from fish to veggies.

The problem
You want to steam something and you don't own a steamer or steaming basket. Here's how to steam without a steamer, with things every kitchen has.
The fix
1. Get a wide pan with a lid.
2. Make three tight balls of aluminum foil and place them in the pan.
3. Set a heatproof plate on top of the foil balls.
4. Add a good layer of water on the side, then parchment paper on the plate, then your food.
5. Move it to the stove and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, add the lid and reduce to a simmer.
6. Steaming usually takes 5 to 20 minutes, depending on your ingredients.
