Japanese-Style Tuna Melt
This is hands down my best upgraded japanese tuna melt I've ever made. The upgrade is in the mix: Kewpie mayo, crispy chili oil and shiro dashi turn a can of tuna into something juicy, then it all melts between two cheeses on buttered toast.
Ingredients
- 1 stick celery, cut up
- 1/2 small red onion, cut up
- 1 stalk green onion, cut up
- 1 can tuna, water drained off
- 1 tbsp black sesame seeds
- 2 1/2 tbsp Kewpie mayo
- 3 tsp crispy chili oil
- 3 tsp shiro dashi (optional, very much recommended)
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- a few cracks black pepper
- 2 slices white bread
- for the bread butter
- 2 slices American cheese
- 1–2 slices a second cheese of your choice
Method
- 1
Cut up the celery, the red onion and the green onion.
- 2
Open the can of tuna, drain the water off and add everything to a bowl.
- 3
Add the black sesame seeds, Kewpie mayo, crispy chili oil, shiro dashi, soy sauce, the juice of half a lime and a few cracks of black pepper. Mix it all together.
- 4
Butter two slices of white bread. Toast one side in the pan, butter it up, then toast the other side.
- 5
Add the American cheese and your second cheese, put the lid on and let it melt for a little bit.
- 6
Add the tuna mixture, put the sandwich together and slice it in half. Look at that beauty.
