This is how we make grilled cheese in the Netherlands, we call them tosti's. My grandma used to make them for me, loaded with cheese. A cast-iron grilled cheese is nice, but the tosti iron plays the Dutch nostalgia game.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices sandwich bread
  • to cover butter
  • loaded cheese, my grandma didn't hold back
  • for dipping ketchup and mayonnaise

Method

  1. 1

Cover the sandwich bread with butter first, then load it with cheese.

  2. 2

Grab the tosti iron and make sure it's heated up.

  3. 3

Place the tosti on the iron, close it, and give it a lovely kiss for extra flavor.

  4. 4

While it grills, squirt your favorite sauce on a plate. My grandma always did ketchup and mayonnaise, and I was a picky child who always insisted on having them mixed up.

  5. 5

When the button turns green, it's done. Ready to burn your mouth on the molten trap cheese. Thanks, grandma.
