This was my first time making a chopped cheese sandwich recipe, let me know if I did it right. Seasoned beef gets chopped straight into sautéed onions and melting cheese, then lands on a toasted roll. It went straight into my top favorite sandwiches.

Ingredients

  • 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  • 1 tomato, sliced (3 slices for the sandwich)
  • a few leaves iceberg lettuce, ripped
  • 140 g ground beef
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 hoagie roll (or a similar firm roll, soft inside)
  • for the pan butter
  • 1 slice American cheddar
  • 1 slice Dutch gouda
  • a smear mayo
  • a pinch salt
  • a few cracks black pepper

Method

  1. 1

Finely dice the yellow onion, cut the tomato and rip a few iceberg lettuce leaves.

  2. 2

Weigh 140 g of ground beef, add the garlic powder, a pinch of salt and cracks of pepper, and mix it in.

  3. 3

Slice the roll open. Throw some butter in a pan and toast the insides of the roll.

  4. 4

Once toasted, add more butter and sauté the onions.

  5. 5

Add the beef, then the cheese, I used half American cheddar and half Dutch gouda. Chop chop chop it in and mix it up. Take it off the heat.

  6. 6

To assemble: smear mayo on the roll, then lettuce, three slices of tomato and the juicy cheesy beef.

  7. 7

Wrap the sandwich in parchment paper to trap that optimal flavor.
